The Andaman Nicobar Island is a Union Territory which is located in India. These are the group of Islands which are found in the junction of Bay of Bengal and also in Andaman Sea. This territory is 150Km North of Aceh in Indonesia and they are separated from Thailand and also Burma by the Andaman Sea. It comprises of two islands. They are Andaman Islands and Nicobar Islands. They are separated by the 10 degree north parallel and also with the Andaman to that of North of latitude and to that Nicobar in the south. Thus Andaman Sea lies in the east and Bay of Bengal to the west. The Territory capital is the Andamanese town of Port Blair. Approximately the total land area covered is 8073 Square Kilometer. Thus the capital of Nicobar Islands is called as Car Nicobar and they are also called as Malacca.
There are nearly 572 islands in the territory and they are having the area of 7950 square Kilometer. Among these 572 islands nearly 34 islands are permanently inhabited. So these islands are extended from 6 degree to 14 degree North latitudesand also from 92 to 94 degree East Longitudes. With the help of a channel Andaman is separated from the Nicobar. The Saddle peak which is the highest peak of about 732 meters is located in North Andaman Islands. 325 Islands are found in the Andaman group which covers the area of about 6170 kilometer square. But the Nicobar Islands comprises nearly 24 islands which area of about 1765 kilometer square.
Capital of Union Territory is Port Blair which is located in 1255 kilometer from Kolkata, 1200 Km from Vishakhapatnam and 1190Km from Chennai. The northern most point of this Andaman and Nicobar islands is 901Km which is away from the mouth of the Hoogly River and 190 Km from Burma. Great Nicobar Islands is the southernmost point of India and this lies only 150 Km from Sumatra islands in Indonesia.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands are really blessed with beautiful tropical rainforest. So they are mixed with different types of Flora. So there are 2200 varieties of plants which have been recorded. Among which there are nearly 200 are endemic. Nearly 1300 varieties do not occur in mainland of India. In south Andaman forests have the growth of epiphytic Vegetation in which most of the area are found with ferns and Orchids.So the middle of the Andaman are covered by moist deciduous forest. North Andaman's are covered with wet evergreen type with the lot of woody climbers. In north Nicobar Islands are covered by the absence of ever green forests.Total forest area covered is nearly 86.2% of the total land. Total population is 380,500 approximately given by the report in 2012.
