In the Indian state of West Bengal Darjeeling which is a Town. Darjeeling is considered as one of the most famous tourist spot in India and it is situated in the Mahabharat range which is an lesser Himalaya of an average elevation range of about 6710feet.Darjeeling is mainly popular for its Tea industry and the Darjeeling Himalayan railway a UNESCO world heritage site. Darjeeling District is the Headquarter of Darjeeling. Darjeeling is the subdivision of Sadar which is the main town and they are also considered as the Headquarter of this district. This is located in the Darjeeling Himalayan region which is Darjeeling Jalapahar range which originates from the south from Ghum. This range is Y shaped in which it contains the base that is resting at Katapahar and also Jalapahar. These are the two arms which are diverging from the north of observatory hill. The arm which is the north east dips suddenly and then it ends in the Lebong Spur. In the same manner north western part of the arm which passes through the North Point and also in the valley the Tukevr Tea Estate. Kanchenjunga is the world third largest peak which is 8598m which is 28,209 feet high which is the most important mountain which are available. But in case of clear clouds Nepal's Mount Everest which is seen clearly. Their height is 29,029feet.
The hills which are found in Darjeeling are the part of Mahabharat Range.The soil which is found in this area is mainly composed of sand stone and Conglomerate formations. The soil here is poorly distributed so they are not suitable for agriculture.Frequent landslides are often takes place in this area. This is mainly due to steep slopes and loose top soil.This condition takes place during the Monsoon Seasons. Due to Bureau of Indian Standards this town falls under the Seismic Zone IV which is near to the convergent boundary of the Indian and also the Eurasian Tectonic Plates. Darjeeling is famous for its Zoo-geographic area which is found in the Eastern Himalayas.Flora which is found in this Darjeeling is Sal, Oak, semi-evergreen, temperate and alpine forests. Vast evergreen forests which contain Sal, Oak are found in the town and a wide variety of rare orchids are found. Darjeeling and the other surrounding region face the problem of deforestation which is mainly due to the increasing the demand of wood fuels and also the timber.
Wildlife is protected by Wildlife wing of the West Bengal Forest Department. The Fauna which is found in the Darjeeling contains several species such as Ducks, teals, plovers and gulls which pass from Darjeeling that migrates to and from Tibet. Small mammals which are found in this region are Civets, mongoose and badgers. Ever green Jaldapara National park consists of Sal forests.Some of other animals which are found here are one-horned rhinoceros, elephant, tiger and leopard and hog deer. Even the red pandas are also found.
